Terrace Search and Rescue (TSAR) is making strides in the development of its new headquarters at 4455 Greig Ave.

On Monday (April 24), the site was prepared for the installation of a 55-foot tall communications tower set to arrive in approximately a month. TSAR teams are already working on-site in the basement, and the organization is fundraising to complete the top floor of the building.

The new headquarters project began in 2017 when TSAR purchased a piece of land because it had outgrown its previous facility. Ground preparation for the new building started in November 2019, with the exterior structure completed in 2020.

The community’s support, donations, and dedicated volunteers have contributed significantly to the project’s progress, the organization said. However, additional fundraising and work are required to bring the headquarters to completion.

The Greater Terrace Beautification Society is also involved in the project, contributing greenery to the site to better integrate the new headquarters into the surrounding neighbourhood.

TSAR, a non-profit volunteer-based organization serving northwest British Columbia, is a critical service in the region, providing assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

The organization is composed of 70 professional volunteers and relies on community donations for equipment and vehicles such as ATVs, boats, trucks, and sonar devices.

Services offered by TSAR include water rescue and recovery, ground searches and rescue, disaster scene assistance, and mutual aid to other search and rescue teams.

Terrace SAR teams work closely with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), BC Ambulance Service, BC Corners Office, and the Provincial Emergency Program (PEP) to provide essential support and resources during emergencies.

As TSAR continues to fundraise and work on the new headquarters and remains grateful for the community’s ongoing support and commitment to ensuring a safe and effective search and rescue operation in northwest B.C., it said.
