The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine has rescinded an Evacuation Order for portions of Old Remo that had been initially issued on May 16 at 4 p.m. Effective Saturday at 2 p.m., residents are free to return to their homes from Whitebottom Rd. south to the intersection of Robin Rd. and Old Remo Rd.

This revocation comes as a relief for residents who have been living under the stress of the imposed Evacuation Order for the past few days. However, the district emphasizes that an Evacuation Alert remains in effect for the area.

“An Evacuation Order may need to be reissued,” the regional district said in press release. The district is urging the residents to return home as soon as possible to secure their property.

This recent move comes a day after the regional district also rescinded an Evacuation Order for parts of New Remo. Despite these lifted orders, the Evacuation Alert remains in effect for both Old Remo and New Remo. Under this alert, residents are urged to remain prepared for the reissuance of an Evacuation Order at short notice, as floodwaters stabilize amid this week’s flooding concerns.
