The City of Terrace has hired one of its own to replace resigning city manager Kris Boland.

Maggie Hall, now the deputy city manager and economic development officer, takes over from Boland May 1, well ahead of Boland’s original departure date of June 16.

Hall came to work for the city last September in what was then a newly-created position. During her six-month tenure as Terrace’s deputy city manager and economic development officer, Hall secured millions of dollars in grant money and helped to develop strategic policies for the city according to Mayor Sean Bujtas.

“We are thrilled to hire someone with Hall’s drive, strategy, and understanding of the northwest,” said Bujtas. “We are very fortunate to have someone so well positioned inside the organization already.”

Before coming to Terrace, Hall was the business and communications manager for the District of Kitimat and then its economic development and communications director. Prior to that, Hall worked at the Kitimat-Stikine regional district as its economic development officer.

Her career has also seen her working with the United Nations Association in Canada and Simon Fraser University.

The mayor took the opportunity to once again thank Boland for his work with the city over the past two years.

Hall also thanked Boland who had acted as her mentor since her hiring last September and said she was honoured to continue to serve Terrace in her new capacity.

“I am looking forward to building on the successes of council, staff, and the community to continue to make Terrace a great place to live and work,” she said.

There is no immediate timeline to fill the deputy city manager and economic development officer spot, said city communications official Tyler Clarke.

“There will be an evaluation of the role and it may change slightly due to capacity and support that Maggie may need in her new role as city manager,” he said.

Boland, who has been the city’s top administrative officer since January 2021, cited personal reasons for his resignation, which he announced in mid-March.
