BACKGROUND:
On June 12, parents, students and community members gathered outside Suwilaawks Community School and Skeena Middle School demanding answers and transparency from SD82.
These demonstrations were one of many voiced against the school district’s announcement that administrators Pam Kawinsky, Phillip Barron and Cory Killoran would be leaving their schools for teaching positions at different schools this fall.
Since the news broke in April, both Kermode Friendship Society and the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres have written to the Ministry of Education asking them to intervene.
A ministry spokesperson has told the Terrace Standard they are aware of the issue, but there are currently no plans to send a representative to the district.
Does the province need to intervene in the school district controversy?
