UPDATE: Coy Cup evades River Kings again

Terrace boys skunked with three straight losses in Williams Lake

The Coy Cup has certainly lived up to its name, evading the Terrace River Kings yet again this year and going to the Dawson Creek Canucks.

After claiming first in the CIHL regular CIHL and winning playoffs, the River Kings were skunked in Williams Lake with three straight losses.

They dropped their first game 5-6 to the Williams Lake Stampeders, lost 3-7 to Kelowna Sparta and 0-8 to the Dawson Creek Canucks.

The Canucks are from the North Peace Hockey League and earned their first title this year, defeating Kelowna 10-4 in the finals of the senior men’s AA championship.

In the round robin, Dawson Creek got first to take the bye to finals, with two wins and a tie, and Williams Lake was second with the same 2-0-1 record, lower score. Kelowna was third with 1-2, and River Kings last at 0-3.

In the semi-final, Kelowna defeated the home Stampeders 3-2, and then the finals saw Dawson Creek take a blowout 10-4 win over Kelowna for the cup.

The Terrace River Kings have now been in the Coy Cup for five consecutive years. They took silver for three years, bronze last year in Whitehorse, and this year finished last in the tournament.
