Kermodes ready to battle Rupert rivals

Terrace Kermode's boys are battling Charles Hays twice this weekend, after several battles for baskets last weekend.

The Saturday rematch against Duchess Park from Prince George, saw another loss for the Caledonia Kermode senior boys 50-75, but the team played hard and learned a lot.

"Weihao (Zhou) had a good game," said co-coach Cameron MacKay of one of the Kermode players. "Offensively he did some really good things, he was hitting some good shots."

MacKay said the loss revealed a few key gaps where the team needs to focus and improve.

"Defensively we have a lot of work to do… making sure we don’t let them get rebounds," he said.

The junior boys lost 39-52 in their rematch last Saturday, but with the victory Thursday and the 13-point loss, the team still felt pleased overall with a definite improvement from prior games against Duchess Park.

This weekend, starting tonight, the Terrace boys play Charles Hays from Prince Rupert.

“They have a good team,” said MacKay of their next opponents. “They’re ranked in the top ten in B.C."

But MacKay says the Kermode's know the team well and can challenge their Rupert rivals.

"We know each other really well... there’s a lot of respect between the two teams," he said.

"It's always a nice rivalry."

The games are at Caledonia Secondary School at 7 p.m. today, Feb. 10, and then at noon Saturday, Feb. 11.
