The Kermodes senior boys basketball team had two crowd-pleasers Dec. 9 -10, as the team managed two wins during its home-opener games of the season.
Their victories were against the Prince Rupert Rainmakers.
The first game on Friday night started off with key players getting into some foul trouble. The Kermodes managed to hang on to a two-point lead going into the second quarter and upped their advantage by half time, with 37-23 on the scoreboard.
The second half saw much closer play as both teams tightened up their defense. However, it would be the Kermodes who would take the game with a 86-51 victory.
Game two was a spirited affair, as Terrace and Rupert faced off again. The Kermodes started the game nursing some injuries, and it would only get worse as Patrick Kurek dislocated his shoulder and Marcus MacKay picked up some foul trouble.
Despite starting off strong with Terrace leading 19-10 in the first quarter, Prince Rupert played some hard catch-up, and the teams went into halftime a point apart, 35-34 for Terrace. The Rainmakers came out of the break fired up, gaining a 51-39 lead on the strength of Brett Sampson’s outside shooting.
After a time out, Terrace rose to the challenge and scored the first 10 points in the fourth quarter, led by three-point shots from MacKay.
Kermodes outscored the Rainmakers 27-13 in the final quarter to take the win 77-67.
