The junior boys Kermode basketball team claimed a tight 38-36 victory over Duchess Park last Thursday.

Duchess Park came from Prince George for the weekend, and battled both juniors and seniors twice over the weekend.

In Thursday’s junior game, Duchess Park was leading 36-31 in the last 10 minutes of the game, when Carlos Taylor launched a three-pointer to narrow the score to 36-34. He followed that with a free throw, and Cole Ouellet scored another free throw shortly after to tie up the game at 36.

As the clock dropped into the dying seconds, the Kermodes battled for a shot in the opposing end. They fired a pass to Chanse Kennedy who drove to the net and scooped a final layup to win the game 38-36 for the Kermodes. Players said they felt great about the victory, which showed a marked improvement from their prior game with Duchess Park where they lost significantly.

The senior boys lost their game against Duchess Park 41-89 on Thursday, but on Friday they beat Smithers Secondary 75-57.

Centennial Christian School battled a tight game against Queen Charlottes Friday, losing by a close two points 74-76.

Both Caledonia seniors and juniors played a rematch against Duchess Park Saturday night.

Also over the weekend, Caledonia junior girls competed at Skeena Middle School, and the senior girls travelled to Prince George for a tournament there.
