Personal protection needed

Dear Sir: Claudette Sandecki's column, "I won't be a gun totin' granny" which can be read under the opinion channel on www.terracestandard.com, as entertaining as it is, can make a reader feel bad because of the numerous injuries with kitchen and garden implements she fears she may suffer.

Dear Sir:

Claudette Sandecki's column, "I won't be a gun totin' granny" which can be read under the opinion channel on www.terracestandard.com, as entertaining as it is, can make a reader feel bad because of the numerous injuries with kitchen and garden implements she fears she may suffer.

Whatever her reasons for not owning a firearm, wishing to possess or carry for protection a firearm is completely up to you.

But to imply that others should not be permitted to do so for their own protection, and of hers if they happen to be close by when someone wishes to hurt her for her handbag, is wrong.

I don't particularly enjoy yoga as much as my wife does, therefore I do not take the classes, but I surely do not tell her because I have no interest that she should not take them.

Personal protection is everyone's responsibility, and sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but relying on the police to save you is misguided and just plain foolish.

I am not criticizing the police; they just can't be everywhere all the time to help everyone.

How do I know this? I have been one for 15 years and have a pretty good idea what the limitations are of the government's ability to protect its citizens.

Nonetheless, please don't compare my wife wanting to carry a tool for her own protection and that of our child to giving children scissors in a day care. Good luck with the TV remote control though.
