I find it very interesting that our esteemed MLA (“Cheaper gas prices rest on LNG project, says MLA,” The Terrace Standard, March 23, 2011) has attempted to use the Kitimat LNG project as a good news story for natural gas consumers in the northwest.
When I lead the negotiations on the project to bring it to Kitamaat, the MLA provided no assistance at all. In fact he publicly attacked me for abandoning the Haisla and selling out and said he was the only one who was protecting our interests.
Yet the current chief and council have maintained the direction and course that I set when I designed the economic model.
In regard to the current situation there should be a BCUC hearing on the purchase by Apache and EOG of the PNG interests. The monopoly created is not in any one’s interest.
More to the point PNG and any successor have failed to consult and accommodate First Nations for past infringement caused by the right-of-way.
