In Loving Memory ~
It is with heavy hearts that our family announces the passing of our mother Soffia (Geri) Moore at the Penticton Hospital with family by her side on September 15, 2023. She was 87 years young. Soffia was born to parents Stefania and Gisli on March 25, 1936 in Flateyri, Iceland. She immigrated to Canada at age 12 and was the first female passenger to fly out of Iceland on Iceland Air.
She relocated to Vancouver, BC rejoining her mother who had immigrated years earlier. After graduating high school in Vancouver, Soffia went on to do some nurses' training but spent the majority of her working career in various areas of banking.
She married Gordon Larkin in Vancouver and moved to Terrace, BC where she worked at raising six children with much pride and dedication and continued to work at the bank as well. In later years, Soffia remarried to Cecil Moore, and worked alongside him in his travel agency. They travelled many places together and she always looked forward to a new adventure with Cecil. Soffia enjoyed all kinds of music and was a very talented decorator and gardener as well as a great cook. She loved to entertain and share her home with family and friends.
She enjoyed meeting new people and always had room in her heart for a new friend. She was a warm, gracious mother and friend with a true Viking spirit, a truly courageous fighter to the end. She was a real force in our lives and will be truly missed. Thank You, Mom.
Soffia was predeceased by her brother Haukur Gislason in Iceland and her grandson, Luke Houlden.
She is survived by her beloved family: Shelley (Bob), Joanne (Ross), Tammy, Jim (Sally) Nancy (Don), and Jeffery along with a host of wonderful grandchildren.
A gathering for friends and family to share memories of Soffia will be held in Vernon in the Spring of 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Kidney Foundation. Thank You.
