We are sad to announce the passing of Estella Pezarro at Terraceview Lodge in Terrace, BC. Estella was born in Utrecht in the Netherlands and as an adolescent, survived the war mostly in hiding.
She eventually made her way to Cyprus where she met and married Leon Goudsmid. In the late 1940s, Stella and Leon returned to the Netherlands, had 2 daughters, and in 1957 emigrated to Prince Rupert, BC.
In the years since, Estella lived in various communities throughout BC, as well as St. John's NL, and Red Deer, AB. In 2014 she moved to Terrace to be closer to family. Throughout her life, "Stella" made a huge impression on everyone she met.
In her good years she was articulate, well-read, artistic, curious, intellectual, stylish and gracious. Diminishing faculties and ill health robbed her of some of those, but she was loving, had a sense of humour and an appreciation of good food and drink, almost until the end.
The family wishes to thank all of the people who cared for and supported her during her time in Terrace - her friends Rachel and Karen; the staff and friends at the Sunshine Centre; the staff at McConnell Estates; Home Care Nursing; and, finally, the staff at Terraceview Lodge.
Estella is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Ottens (Netherlands); daughters Joyce Nicholls (Kevin (Wilf)) and Marja Heymans (Akawashi); granddaughter Sarah Kilvington (Larry Botelho) and great grandchildren Leo, Sophia and Sandro; grandson Shaun Kilvington (Joannie Kwok); brother-in-law Henri (Harry) Rozendaal; niece Betty Rozendaal (Sonny Goldstein); and, nephew Ed Rozendaal (Genia) and their sons Peter, Alex and Andrew.
At her request, Estella was cremated.
A memorial service is planned once travel and gatherings are acceptable.
