Doug passed away peacefully, at the Kitimat General Hospital, on December 4th after a long battle with heart and kidney disease at the age of 77.
Leaving his soulmate Cherry and wife of 53 years, daughter Shannon (Jim), sons Steven (Pam) and Gordon (Lori). Grandchildren Trevor (Kathy), Aaron, Kyle, Nicholas, Amber, Ryan (Elyse), Bailey, Cassandra, Noah, Emi, Eva, Ella, and a great granddaughter Lola, daughter in law Katja, son in law Philip.
Leaving to mourn as well many other family members, friends and work mates.
Doug was born in Winnipeg and as a teenager, he was very proud to join Air Cadets. He received his pilot licence before his driver’s licence. He studied Social Science/Psychology in University and then became an RCMP officer and was proud to be a member.
Doug and Cherry married and began their family, in Calgary. Doug then took a job with Alcan and they moved to Kemano, and eventually into Kitimat in 1979. Doug worked as the Safety Supervisor and then the HR Manager at Kitimat Works for many years before his retirement in 2000.
Doug was a proud member of the Kiwanis and Kitimat Legion.
Doug was an avid adventurer, hunter, he loved camping and fishing and being out in nature. Doug’s ability to tell stories of his adventures will be missed as he could hold the room captive with his humour. His way with words, and his funny facial expressions and animated ways made you believe you were right there with him.
He loved his family and loved sharing many hunting and fishing trips with his sons and grandsons. His love for all his grandchildren and great granddaughter was the light of his day and the best part of becoming a Papa.
Doug will always be remembered as a loving husband, dad and friend to those who are left behind, until we meet again in Heaven.
A family funeral at Christ the King Church and burial at the Kitimat cemetery will be held this week.
