The Tooms family lived in Montreal, Ocean Falls and Kitimat before settling in Terrace, where Rob graduated from Caledonia High School in 1973. Rob received his Bachelor of Science and his M.B.A. from U.B.C. and soon after, began his career with the Royal Bank of Canada. Rob worked for the R.B.C. in Vancouver and in London, Ontario before moving to Kamloops to serve as the Vice-President of Commercial Financial Services for the B.C. Interior.

Rob was predeceased by his father David Brian Tooms in 1989 and his mother in law Lorraine Smyth in 2011. They loved to travel and enjoyed nine cruises together, visiting exciting cities around the world and making many new friends at the same time.

Due to Chris’ 1992 successful battle with a brain tumour, Rob volunteered as a Director for the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and the Kamloops Brain Injury Association.
