A Terrace youth was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at a crosswalk Tuesday morning.

On Oct. 27 at around 8:10 a.m., RCMP members were dispatched to a call of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle when the driver was turning left from Sparks St. onto Walsh Ave, according to an RCMP media release.

Several witnesses who saw the event, the youth and driver provided statements. The youth was taken to hospital, but was released with no significant injuries.

The driver was served a violation ticket for drive without due care, fail to yield to a pedestrian and fail to produce a licence.

The Terrace RCMP recommends people that are walking to wear bright clothing and reflective material to be more visible, and reminds people that in the coming months it will be darker for longer periods during the day and everyone needs to be aware of their surroundings while driving.

If you wish to report a crime, or have information regarding an on-going investigation please contact the Terrace RCMP at (250) 638-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 1(800) 222-8477.
