A string of vehicle thefts reported to police on Aug. 17 along two blocks in the Terrace Horseshoe resulted in wallets, jackets, sunglasses, money, tools and other items being stolen.

There was no damage reported to the vehicles parked driveways and elsewhere on the 4800 blocks of Soucie and Walsh Ave., police said.

Police are reminding people to lock their vehicles at night and to remove all items from within vehicles.

“For years now, a common crime in Terrace has been theft from vehicles, where the suspect walks up and down streets checking driveways for unlocked vehicles and helping themselves to the ones they gain access to,” said Terrace RCMP Constable Kelly Cates.

“Often these thefts occur because an unlocked vehicle is an easy target. If a vehicle is locked and no valuables are inside, the thief may move on to look for an easier target.”

She also suggested setting an alarm on smartphones as a reminder to do a check that vehicles and doors are locked each night.

“A one minute nightly routine to lock up valuables is much easier than dealing with the theft of a wallet or other important belongings,” Cates added.

If you have information about these crimes or if you see something or someone suspicious in your neighbourhood, be sure to report to the Terrace RCMP at (250) 638-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
