Terrace Search and Rescue (SAR) rescued a person stuck on a gravel bar in the Skeena River on Sept. 1 after he jumped from the Skeena River railway bridge.

This past Sunday at approximately 10:00 p.m., SAR was notified by RCMP that a man was stranded following a suicide attempt in which he jumped from the bridge, according to a Sept. 3 SAR Facebook post.

Surviving the fall, the man then swam to a gravel island in the river.

Using SAR’s inflated boat, two SAR swiftwater rescue volunteers and one RCMP member crossed fast-moving water to retrieve the man.

He was then handed over to Emergency Health Services for treatment.

The Terrace Standard has contacted SAR for additional information.
