Terrace RCMP week in review: 242 calls to police

Terrace RCMP responded to approximately 242 calls between Aug. 15 and Aug. 21 with 100 of those calls occurring over the weekend from Friday to Sunday.

Man assaulted with a bat and bare mace, arrested on active warrant

In the late afternoon on on Aug. 21 a man was assaulted with a bat and bear mace on the 3400 block of Kalum Street. A witness told police that two people “came out of nowhere” before assaulting the man.

The victim was transported to hospital but did not provide a statement to police. The victim was found to have an active warrant out of Kitimat and was arrested and released with a court date.

ATV impounded after fleeing police

At around 3:30 am on Aug. 21, police were patrolling in the Thornhill area for an ATV when the officer attempted a traffic stop and the ATV fled from police. The officer continued patrols and later located an ATV arriving at an address in Thornhill and suspected the driver to be impaired.

The driver refused to provide a breath sample and was issued an immediate roadside prohibition, including a 30 day vehicle impound and 90 day licence suspension.

Violation tickets were also issued for driving without insurance, liquor in the motor vehicle and failing to produce driver’s licence.

Dog in distress

Police received a report of a dog in distress inside of a parked hot vehicle on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 21. The driver of the vehicle returned to the car left with the dog before police arrived on the scene. RCMP is reminding the public not to leave pets unattended in parked vehicles for any amount of time, especially during the current heat wave.

Bicycle thief

On the afternoon of Aug. 19, police responded to a report of a bike theft in progress. RCMP said a youth had stolen the bike near a business on Lakelse Ave. and fled the scene. The youth was located and arrested for theft and the bike was found a short distance away. The youth’s guardian was made aware and the youth was released with a court date.The bike was returned to its owner.

Windows smashed

Late in the evening of Aug.t 21, RCMP received a report of window smashing at a business on Clark Street in Thornhill. Police attended the location and found damage to two windows. Police say there are no leads at this time.
