A 28-YEAR-OLD Terrace man has been arrested after border police seized prohibited weapons from a package from Hong Kong.

On April 16, Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at the Vancouver International Mail Centre examined the package, which was declared as “electrical toys”, and destined to a residential address in Terrace, reported police today, May 4.

After officers X-rayed the parcel, and “identified inconsistencies” in it, they opened the box to verify the contents, and seized 21 stun guns – 20 flashlight-style and 1 rectangular-shaped.

“The importation of prohibited weapons into Canada shows a blatant disregard for police and public safety,”  says Sgt Jagdev Uppal of the British Columbia Federal Border Integrity Program.

“The safety and security of our communities is a top priority for the RCMP and CBSA and we will continue to work together to ensure prohibited weapons are taken off the streets.”

With the assistance of North District Drug Section and Terrace General Investigative Section / Crime Reduction Unit, Prince Rupert Border Integrity Program officers executed a search warrant at a residential address in Terrace April 27.

During the search, police located and seized five additional flashlight-style stun guns with the word “police” on them, marijuana, and prescription drugs.

A man was arrested and faces a number of criminal charges including importation of prohibited weapons knowing they are prohibited, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

He also faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Anyone with information about suspicious cross-border activity is asked to call their local RCMP or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
