A fire in the back of a pickup loaded with firewood and tires in the early morning hours of Aug. 17 is being treated as suspicious by authorities.
Two fire engines and four firefighters were dispatched to Clinton Street, just north of its intersection with Lakelse Avenue, at 3:40 a.m., said Terrace Fire Chief Chad Cooper.
“The cause of the fire is still under investigation. However, the fire has been deemed suspicious in nature.”
Firefighters contained the blaze to the back of the pickup. The gas cap door was observed to be open.
This was the second fire in less than a week in that area of the city. The first brought out Terrace firefighters and firefighters from Thornhill to the commercial block containing OK Tire and other businesses on Greig Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 10.
Crews worked quickly to contain a blaze at the back of the building. A subsequent investigation determined that fire was caused by an electrical arc, Cooper said.
