The Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine Local (RDKS) recinded state of emergency order for all of Old Remo, Usk and the area ‘C’ electoral district on Friday (June 10) as the Kalum, Zymacord, and Skeena Rivers continue to recede.

New Remo, Old Remo, and Usk are now on Evacuation Alert only. The RDKS will continue to monitor the rivers and river forecast centre. As the Provincial River Forecast Centre is maintaining a flood watch for the Skeena Rivers the evacuation alert from June 2nd remains for Dutch Valley.

If your area’s evacuation order is rescinded RDKS asks that you return home as soon as possible to secure your property. Security will remain in Old Remo until this evening.

At this time residents and businesses in areas that have have experienced flooding should consult “recovering after a flood” at gov.bc.ca where you can see the provincial government document regarding sewage systems and flooding.

Remember that a well may become contaminated during a flood. Contact your local health authority for information about testing your drinking water if you are on a well or a private surface water system.

Do not drink the water until it has been tested and is safe. You can contact a Health Protection Officer at 250-565-7322.

The Regional District will provide updates, information and resources on local radio stations and on its website.

Another update is expected on June 13.
