South side fire was arson: police

The Terrace Forensic Identification Section has determined that an apartment fire was arson.

TERRACE RCMP has determined a fire on the south side was arson.

Terrace RCMP and the Terrace Fire Department were called to the fire at approximately 6 p.m. on May 1st after smoke was observed coming from the laundry room at a building in the 2600 block of Tetrault St., reported police today, May 3.

A tenant of the building used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire before there was any structural damage, said police.

A tenant witnessed the smoke rising to his apartment and immediately pulled the fire alarm. A second tenant used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out before it grew. These people need to be commended for their quick actions that prevented significant damage to property and possibly saved lives, says Const. Angela Rabut, media relations officer Terrace RCMP.
