Senior city official leaves for new post

People now needed for three top positions

The City of Terrace continues to lose longtime top officials with the latest being leisure services director Rob Schibli who is off to become the Coast Mountains School District’s senior official in charge of facility services.

Schibli had been the city’s public works director for more than seven years before moving laterally to become the leisure services director last year following the departure of Carmen Didier.

Schibli leaves the city as of March 12 and will start his new job on April 6, taking over from Travis Elwood who left the school district in mid-December last year for a position as operations director with the school district in Salmon Arm.

It means there are now three senior city positions vacant or about to become vacant — the leisure services position, the position of director of engineering and public works, a renamed title from what had been public works director and which has been vacant since Schibli left to run leisure services and a new job, public works manager. The latter was created just this year following a council decision to bulk up its public works department in response to increased work demands.

And all of this comes after another long term city official, Heather Avison, retired from her job as chief administrative officer in November. A replacement for her was found following an extensive search which resulted in the hiring of Kris Boland away from the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine where he was the deputy chief administrative officer.
