BOTH the Coast Mountains School District and Northwest Community College are continuing their search for local families willing to take in international students.
For the college in particular, the search for local families recognizes the lack of suitable residence accommodation at its campus here.
And the effort is partially driven by the City of Terrace’s move for closer cultural, social and educational connections with Qinhuangdao, China.
The Qinhuangdao Economic Development Zone in that area is already positioning itself to be a major economic player here through developing more than 1,000 acres purchased at the Skeena Industrial Development Park just south of the Northwest Regional Airport.
“While our school district is currently managing its own homestay program, we are in discussion with a national organization to take over this responsibility,” said school district superintendent Katherine McIntosh.
College communications director Sarah Zimmerman said the college’s family search is being handled through the a national organization called The Canada Homestay Network.
“We have some [international] students now in our residences and there may be others staying with families through their own connections,” she said.
