The Regional District of Kitimat Stikine (RDKS) cancelled the state of local emergency issued on June 3, due to flooding.
The emergency was called off at 11 a.m. Monday (June 7) in a statement issued by RDKS director Ron Poole.
The RDKS stated that since the water levels in Kalum and Skeena dropped significantly over the past few days, “the flooding emergency no longer requires prompt co-ordination of action or special regulation of persons or property to protect the health, safety or welfare of people or to limit damage to property.”
The evacuation order for New Remo and Old Remo and Dutch Valley was also rescinded as of 10 a.m and property owners will be allowed back into these areas. However, security will still remain in place for one more day to allow access only to property owners.
The regional district also said that it will be addressing the issue of post flood recovery in the coming days and more information can be found on the website.
The City of Terrace has also deactivated its Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) since the risk of flood to the City has passed.
City crews are out evaluating Ferry Island and Fisherman’s Park for public safety. The areas will remain closed until further updates from city officials.
