Police continue to investigate an alleged Nov. 26 assault at George’s Pub in Thornhill that resulted in injuries to a local woman. Witnesses reported one woman attacking the other with a glass cup or mug to the face after an argument broke out.

Terrace RCMP Cst. Kelly Cates, whose detachment covers Thornhill, confirmed there was a delay between the time of the incident and the assault suspect being arrested on Friday, Dec. 9.

Amid “mud being slung at police for their response” with some public speculation as to whether police would have acted more quickly if the suspect were non-white, Cates said it’s “very standard to have a number of tasks that need to get taken care of” before forwarding charge recommendations to the B.C. Prosecutions Service.

“There are lots of tasks on the file still that are being handled. It’s still under investigation… Once the investigation is complete there will be charges recommended to Crown,” said Cates.

“The suspect has been arrested and conditions are in place. It’s pretty standard if there’s nothing out of the ordinary.”

Police would not specify what conditions are in place or whether the suspect was taken into custody during her arrest.
