RCMP are investigating a homicide in the area of a residential complex now under construction in the downtown core of Terrace, B.C.

Investigators have been on the scene all day near the St. Matthew’s Church on Lakelse Ave. as part of a continuing police presence.

Police incident tape is present around the area.

Inspector Terry Gillespie, the commanding officer of the Terrace RCMP detachment, confirmed that a homicide has taken place, adding that more information will be released tomorrow.

“We don’t believe that there is any danger to the public,” he said.

“For now, we’re asking anyone with information to contact the Terrace RCMP on the non-emergency line.”

The residential complex under construction is on the corner of Clinton and what appears to be an alley, but which is actually the 4500-block of Lazelle Ave.

Homes along there are well-known to the RCMP and, on occasion, its specialized Emergency Response Team.

Construction of the residential complex began earlier this year.
