The RCMP and BC Coroners Service are investigating after a 73-year-old man was found deceased in a flooded basement on the afternoon of June 3 in New Remo.

According to an RCMP media release, officers responded to a call to a residence on the 6700 block of Kilby Rd. to check on the wellbeing of a man who did not return home the evening prior. When officers arrived they found the man in several feet of water in the flooded basement.

“While the BC Coroners Service is continuing to investigate, initial investigation does lead police to believe that criminality was not involved in this man’s death,” stated S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP, in the release.

The BC Coroners Service attended the scene and is conducting its own investigation into the man’s death. His identity will not be released.
