Vehicle loses control on Hwy 16 and rolls down embankment

The New Hazelton RCMP responded to a complaint of a traffic collision located near the overpass in New Hazelton on June 29, 2014 at 10:46 a.m.

A silver Dodge Durango was travelling east on Highway 16 with two occupants when it lost control as it was headed towards the New Hazelton Overpass, and rolled approximately 25 m down an embankment, landing on the railway tracks below, reported police June 30.

The vehicle caught fire, which was quickly extinguished by the fire responders.

The two occupants were transferred to Wrinch memorial hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Alcohol and speed is believed to be a factor in the crash, said police.

This investigation is on going and the New Hazelton RCMP is asking the public that if anyone witnessed this vehicle being operated in an erratic manner prior to the collision to please call 250-842-5244.
