Terrace RCMP and the BC Coroners Service have confirmed they believe the remains of a man found Aug. 24 in an area off of the Copper River Forest Service Road to be those of a local resident reported missing last July.

John Klukas was reported missing by family after leaving his house in Old Remo on July 5, 2022 intending to visit his mother in Kleanza.

Klukas, 64, never did return home, sparking a search by Terrace Search and Rescue and family members.

His car, a grey Toyota Corolla, was found stuck on the North Copper Logging Road near where the remains were found.

“Police have examined the scene where the remains have been located and have located items that have assisted in the identity of the remains,” a statement from the Terrace RCMP indicated.

“Police and BC Coroners Service believed the remains to be that of a man reported missing in July 2022. While the investigation is ongoing, there is no evidence to suggest the death was a result of foul play.”
