Coast Mountain School District 82’s breakfast program has received over $3,000 courtesy of a local initiative in Kitimat.

The initiative was created by Steve Brooks an ironworker with Ironworkers Local 97 after a conversation with Ben Unrau who is also with Ironworkers Local 97. The conversation brought to light the need for donations to help feed kids in the local schools.

“If there’s a problem with something I try to find a solution or try to get involved,” said Brooks. “I went around and started talking to the crews and started collecting some money.”

Brooks’ colleagues began giving money to help support the initiative. Some companies also helped pitch in such as Zanron Mechanical Services, a local Kitimat company, gave $1,000. ABC Industries Ltd, another Kitimat company, also gave $500 bringing the total collected to $3,090.

Zanron Mechanical Services is a mechanical contractor and fabricator that has been servicing the northwest for more than 30 years. ABC Industries Ltd, is an industrial and commercial janitorial service provider.

Over the Easter weekend, a cheque was then handed over to Coast Mountain School District 82.
