Liberals gather in Terrace today

NORTHWEST LIBERALS gather in Terrace today to vote on whether the party should choose a different way to elect its next leader.

The current system is one member/one vote but that's seen as favouring the more populated southern areas of the province where Liberal riding associations can have several thousand members.

Up for a vote is a system whereby each riding association, no matter how many members, is assigned 100 points. Voting within each riding then determines how many points each leadership candidate receives leading to an overall victory based on total number of points received from each riding.

Terrace is one of 10 central locations in BC where Liberal members are gathering to cast their votes on the proposed change which, if passed, will be in place for the Feb. 26 leadership vote.

Members here will be connected via satellite to the central meeting spot in Vancouver. There will be discussion before the vote is held.

A debate among leadership candidates follows the voting.
