Lanfear Dr. is undergoing some changes this summer.
The city’s received a $25,600 grant from the province that’ll go towards creating a bike lane on Lanfear between Walsh to north of Pheseant St. by the entrance of the tree park at the base of Lanfear Hill.
The grant is a matching grant, so the city will be putting $25,600 into the project as well.
Bike lanes will be on both sides of the road and be about 1.5 metres in width.
Work is set to begin sometime this September, and the city will also be patching up some of the bumpy parts of Lanfear at the same time.
This grant is part of the $1 million the province is handing out to 17 communities in B.C. for cycling infrastructure projects in a bid to encourage and support healthy living for families and communities.
To get the grant, applicants had to describe how a project contributed to increased physical activity as part of the community’s plan.
Up to $100,000 is available to individual municipalities for projects like bike lanes, separated bike paths and multi-use trails.
Of the 17 communities in the province to get grant money, there were only three in northern B.C.: Terrace, Fort St. John ($100,000 for 94th Avenue Trail) and Prince George ($100,000 for Tyner Boulevard Trail).
