Kitselas elected a new chief councillor and new members to council June 10.
Judy Gerow takes over the new chief councillor position from outgoing chief councillor Glenn Bennett, beating out five other candidates for the spot. Gerow has served on council for 12 years and was part of the group that started up the Kitselas Volunteer Fire Department.
Cora Kennedy and Wilfred Bennett Sr. were two of the 17 candidates to make the list and are newly elected to council. Joining the newcomers are Joe Bevan and Gerald Seymour, who have already served terms on council.
A by-election will be held for the last council seat as Gerow was also elected to council.
The former council's term expired June 12.
Bennett, who had been the chief councillor for Kitselas for a decade, had announced his retirement earlier this spring but let his name stand in this year's election as people had asked him to continue his work.
Bennett will act as band administrator until a new one is hired, and will continue working in the Kitselas treaty department.
