Kitselas First Nation hosted its third annual K5T (Kitselas Training & Employment) career Expo on Tuesday March 26, at the Terrace Sportsplex showcasing culture, employment, and community success.

The event which began as an initiative for First Nations to address employment gaps within the region, has now transformed into a trade show of opportunities serving Northwestern B.C.

“We realized that simply presenting job opportunities wasn’t enough, saidClarisa Spencer, with K5T. “There were gaps that needed addressing, and we sought to fill them by fostering a supportive environment based on Kitselas values.”

Welcoming approximately 500 attendees this year, the Expo saw participation from industries spanning construction, natural resources, education, and more.

“What sets our Expo apart is its focus on celebrating culture in the workplace,” she said. “We believe that embracing diversity and inclusivity is integral to fostering success in our community.”

Highlighting Indigenous entrepreneurship was a key for this year’s Expo, with indigenous businesses being prominently featured alongside established industry players.

The Expo received an overwhelmingly positive feedback from the attendees and participants, with many praising the energetic atmosphere and engaging activities.

“It was fun,” remarked a participant. “You just don’t hear that about career fairs often.”
