The City of Terrace is advising residents to avoid non-essential travel and to stay home until hazardous road conditions improve.
Freezing rain, combined with a winter storm warning which is currently in effect for Terrace and other areas in the northwest, has caused extremely slippery conditions on roads, sidewalks and pathways.
“Our roads crews are out in full force putting down sand/gravel/salt as well as plowing some areas, including sidewalks; however, it’s important to remain cautious even on what appear to be sanded roads and walkways,” said the city in a statement.
However, despite sand being spread, it is getting rained on, which quickly freezes over. As a result the roads have very little traction currently.
“Our crews will continue to distribute sand, gravel, and salt for traction until conditions improve,” said the city
Freezing rain and winter storm warning is expected to continue through tonight and Tuesday.
