PREMIER Christy Clark returns to Terrace today, perhaps a sign that in the waning days of the provincial election the BC Liberals feel they have a chance of winning the Skeena riding after having it solidly within the NDP camp since 2005.
It’s the second time the BC Liberal leader will have stopped in Terrace, the first being a brief handshake tour of patrons in the Wings restaurant April 13 following a rally in Kitimat.
BC Liberal candidate Carol Leclerc, the current mayor of Terrace, narrowed the gap in the 2013 provincial election on the strength of a good showing in Kitimat.
This time around, even before the campaign officially began, a number of provincial cabinet ministers made appearances in the riding in support of Clark’s hand-picked candidate, former Haisla Nation chief councillor Ellis Ross.
That outside support of Ross continued this past Monday when deputy premier Rich Coleman, also in charge of developing a liquefied natural gas industry in the province, appeared at a noon hour rally.
Clark begins her day in Richmond before heading to Campbell River and then to Terrace. After Terrace she’s off to Smithers and then to Prince George.
There’s no indication yet if BC NDP leader John Horgan will appear in the Skeena riding in support of candidate Bruce Bidgood.
Clark’s Terrace appearance is set for 1:20 p.m. at the Thornhill Pub.
As for the Skeena riding candidates, The Terrace Standard’s profiles of BC Liberal Ellis Ross, NDP candidate Bruce Bidgood and Merv Ritchie from the Land Air Water party can be found by clicking on their names in this sentence.
