NEW AIYANSH RCMP and the Terrace West Pacific Regional Traffic Services are currently on the scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 113, 15 km west of New Aiyansh.
The accident was reported to police at approximately 1:15 a.m. this morning.
Police confirm the vehicle was traveling west on Highway 113 when the driver lost control and drove into the side of a cliff then landed in the middle of the roadway.
There were three female occupants in the vehicle and one female was trapped inside the vehicle.
Witnesses said the vehicle caught fire and the trapped female was unable to be saved, said police.
One occupant suffered non life threatening injuries and was taken to Mills Memorial hospital for medical attention.
Highway 113 was closed in both directions while a collision analyst reviewed the scene and DriveBC reported at 10:41 a.m. this morning that the highway had been reopened.
West Pacific Region Traffic Services along with the collision analyst continue to investigate the incident.
Police believe speed and alcohol are contributing factors in this tragic incident.
No names will be provided by the RCMP.
