Candidates gather for debate tomorrow

Residents have a chance tomorrow to see what their federal candidates for the Skeena Bulkley Valley riding have to say on northwest issues

Residents have a chance tomorrow to see what their federal candidates for the Skeena Bulkley Valley riding have to say on northwest issues.

All six candidates - Green Party candidate Roger Benham, Canadian Action Party candidate Maggie Braun, incumbent NDP MP Nathan Cullen,  Conservative Party candidate Clay Harmon, Christian Heritage Party candidate Rod Taylor and Liberal Party candidate Kyle Warwick - have been invited to the All Candidates Meeting taking place April 20 at the R.E.M Lee Theatre.

Northwest Community College president Denise Henning is the moderator and a panel of journalists from The Terrace Standard, Astral Media and CFNR will ask the candidates questions about local and federal issues.

The floor will then be open for the public to ask questions of the candidates. Audience questions can either be in written format or presented orally.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the R.E.M. Lee Theatre on 4920 Straume Ave.

The federal election was triggered after MPs voted 156 in favour and 145 against on a Liberal party motion expressing non-confidence in the government March 25.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper then visited Governor General David Johnston to formally ask that Parliament be dissolved.

Voters go to the polls May 2 to choose their riding’s representative.

Locations to vote are on each voter information card, which were mailed out April 6. Those residents who have not received  their cards can contact Elections Canada.

The Elections Canada office in Terrace is located in the Skeena Mall.
