Effective noon today (July 22), the campfire ban which has been in place since June 30, has been lifted for Terrace and Ferry Island.
“Thanks to the past few days of rainy, cooler weather and a prediction of only a few sunny days followed by cooler, wet days again, the threat of out-of-control wildfire is less than in previous weeks,” said City of Terrace Fire Chief John Klie.
The bans are still in effect outside of the city limits and the bans on Category 2 and 3 fires (usually for land clearing) remain in place.
The city will continue to monitor conditions over the coming weeks to determine if a return to the campfire ban is required.
Citizens are also reminded that burning of yard waste, grass, branches, leaves, and other debris is not allowed within city limits, as per the City of Terrace Fire Prevention Bylaw. This bylaw is in place to protect the community from forest fires and to avoid aggravating respiratory health conditions.
