Campers will be able to reserve spaces at the Ferry Island Campground starting tomorrow, (March 15).

The first day of camping at Terrace’s municipal campground is set for April 29, and people can book one of the 103 sites by contacting Shanon Young, caretaker, by email at ferryisland@terrace.ca or by phone at 250-631-2716.

BC Parks is launching a new online reservation service for provincial sites on March 21, but people can preview the website and create an account as soon as March 15 at bcparks.ca.

That system will allow for the booking of campsites under provincial jurisdiction, such as Furlong Bay Campground at Lakelse Lake Provincial Park.

Furlong Bay sites are reservable from May 12 to Sept. 6 for sites 1-81, and May 5 to Sept. 25, 2022 for sites 82-156. Kleanza Creek Campground sites are reservable for May 5 to Sept. 18.

The province has seen a high volume of people interested in camping during the COVID-19 pandemic, and expects the demand to stay strong. According to BC Parks, the organization has scaled up web servers to better handle high web traffic volumes, and using a two month rolling window for bookings.

That means campers booking on the system launching on March 21 will only be able to select an arrival date up to May 21. People looking to book a site for June 15 will need to wait until April 15, for example.
