The Junior Boys Basketball team from Caledonia Secondary School is heading to the provincial tournament after defeating Prince Rupert.

The team comprising of 15 students, mostly from Grade 10, will be heading to Langley today, (Feb. 24) to compete in provincials which will be held till March 1.

This will be the first time the team will be participating in a provincial tournament since 2015, according to coach and vice-principal Joe Dominguez, who has been training the team since they were in Grade 2.

“It’s a big deal for the boys and it’s nice to see the kids develop their talent,” Dominguez added.

After the Caledonia team won the Northwest Zone Championship on Feb. 12, the students’ parents fundraised for the team’s flights and accommodation to get them to Langley within two weeks. Many of the local businesses in Terrace came forward to help them out.

“It has been quite amazing to see the support of the community, parents and local businesses,” added Dominguez about these efforts.
