One woman has been arrested after an attempted robbery left employees at a Terrace liquor store shaken up.

The incident happened just before 2 p.m. on Aug. 11 at the Skeena Liquor Store, located adjacent to the Skeena Bar on Greig Avenue.

One employee at the liquor store, who The Terrace Standard has chosen not to identify, said the woman appeared to be hiding something within their jacket, though it was initially unclear if the suspect was armed.

Terrace RCMP Staff Sgt. Terry Gillespie confirmed the suspect was indeed armed, but fortunately, no one was injured.

“They didn’t make it that far,” remarked Gillespie, referring to the suspect’s short-lived escape after seizing cash from the store.

The suspect didn’t resist arrest for long, surrendering to police after a brief chase, Gillespie said. The entire incident, from the robbery to the police call, unfolded rapidly: RCMP received a report at 1:57 p.m., and “police responded in 49 seconds.”

Staff impacted by the incident were sent home, but the liquor store remains open.

Police are continuing their investigation. As charges have not been laid at this time, the suspect has not been identified.

More to come.
