Provincial paramedics will be outside the Skeena Mall Friday, Dec. 1 from noon to 4 p.m. collecting blankets and socks for the community’s homeless population.

Called the Keep Cozy Blanket Drive, paramedics will take new or gently-used blankets as well as socks to the Ksan Society whose workers will then distribute them as needed.

“With the weather getting colder, a large portion of our call volume is for people who are cold,” explained paramedic Royleen Wensvoort of the campaign.

“As for socks, we find that their feet are always wet.”

Paramedics will also accept cash donations for Ksan.

The ultimate goal, said Wensvoort is to fill an ambulance with blankets and socks.

“It is heartwarming to see people like Royleen who, although already doing such much for our community, find additional compassion within themselves to organize a donation drive like this,” said Vicky Serafini from the Ksan Society.

Cash collected will help pay for the laundering of used items.
