Wine on the Terrace might have only opened a year ago but this local u-brew and gift shop has already earned national recognition!
Owner Leanne Harms was recently awarded Best Home-brew Shop of the Year by the Canadian Home-brewers Association after being nominated by local home-brew club the Misty Mountain Mashers.
“Leanne has been a blessing to the Misty Mountain Mashers and given us the opportunity to better promote our growing community of homebrewers,” says Alexander Kaul, president of the Misty Mountain Mashers. “She has provided us with a place to meet, has helped organize home brew ‘bootcamps’ and if we need anything for the hobby, she can find it for us. She has been such a great resource and we’re thrilled to hear she won Best Home-Brew Shop of 2022!”
In addition to supporting the local home-brew community, Wine on the Terrace also donated a portion of profits from the sales of home-brew kits this past winter to Terrace’s skating club, made donations and sold tickets for Terraces local Kimmunity Angels in the fall. They’ve also partnered with Recork, a specialty cork recycling business, as part of their commitment to being a carbon-negative organization and a dedicated community partner.
Harms attributes the early success of Wine on the Terrace to her previous experiences as a business owner and the warm, welcoming support of the Terrace community.
“I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a love for entertaining. It’s those two passions that inspired me to open Wine on the Terrace,” Harms says. “It’s an honour to have won Best Home-brew Shop of the Year and I’m so thankful to the Misty Mountain Mashers for the nomination.”
What’s next for Wine on the Terrace?
While they have many ambitious plans for 2023, one of the most notable is their hope to start hosting more classes, events and activity nights, Harms says. They’re currently in the early stages of planning a wine and painting night and hosting some wine-making classes – stay up to date with the latest news, events and activities on Facebook and Instagram!
