The Terrace River Kings continued their winning start to the new Central Interior Hockey League (CIHL) season, securing comfortable victories at home against both Williams Lake and Quesnel over the Halloween weekend.
On Saturday (Oct. 30), Terrace beat the shorthanded Williams Lake Stampeders 6-1 at the Terrace Sportsplex. The visitors only had 11 skaters available for the game and were overwhelmed early on. The River Kings led 3-1 after the first period and did not let up, scoring again in the second and twice in the third.
Terrace peppered the Stampeders’ goal, registering 28 shots in the first period and 73 total shots. Williams Lake had 25 shots in the game.
Ryan Roseboom scored twice and added an assist, and Connor Beauchemin had two goals and four points in the game. Colin Bell notched four assists, with helpers on the first three goals of the game.
William Orrey and Chapen Leblond were the other goal-scorers for the River Kings.
Terrace continued to roll on Sunday, downing the Quesnel Kangaroos 6-2. Bell had two goals and five points. William Orrey also scored twice, and Roseboom and Connor Onstein contributed a goal each.
Orrey accumulated 17 penalty minutes in the second period, including a fighting major and a 10-minute misconduct penalty. River Kings goaltender Tyran Hunter picked up both wins over the weekend, and leads the league with three wins and a 1.67 goals against average.
Terrace tops the CIHL standings, scoring an average of more than five goals per game. The River Kings are the only undefeated team left in the league, and will look to keep that streak alive in their next game versus the Hazelton Wolverines (2-2). Puck drop is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Terrace Sportsplex.
