The city of Terrace was awarded the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting on March 15 by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its annual financial report.

The award goes to a community demonstrating a “spirit of full disclosure” and clearly communicates the municipality’s financial story.

“We’re very proud of the hard work and details our Finance Department provides for all its reporting,” said Mayor Sean Bujtas. “It’s especially exciting to see the recognition come from the Government Finance Officers Association.”

The GFOA is based in Chicago and provides members with best-practice information about city finances including accounting, auditing, budgeting, capital planning, etc.

Previous awards to B.C. municipalities have gone to various communities scattered around the province including Burnaby, Campbell River and Fort St. John.

The award represents a significant accomplishment by the Terrace government and its management, the mayor said.

“A big congratulations to our entire department for this honour.”
