Offering information from spiritual exploration to mental and physical fitness, the Northwest Wellness Expo attracted more than 500 people to the Terrace Sportsplex Arena this year.
This is the first time the Wellness Expo was expanded to include a second day after interest around the festival grew, according to organizer Lena Rothwell. Rothwell is one of the seven members responsible for organizing the expo, and has been involved with it since it began three years ago.
“There are a lot of businesses that were interested in being a part of this,” Rothwell said. “At first it was surprising how many places were focussed on health and wellness in Terrace.”
Seeming to grow with each year, the festival’s 51 exhibitors were sprawled across the main hall and included booths showcasing products from Hype Tea, Love of Rocks, New Age Insights, and Haida Jaada’s Suds n Stuff Inc., just to name a few.
While some attendees browsed and shopped downstairs, there were 24 workshops offered upstairs throughout the course of the day on Saturday. Topics ranged from first aid and muscle testing, to meditation and music therapy.
Sasa Loggin, another organizer from the Skeena Diversity Centre, hosted an International Cooking demonstration during the first day of festival on Friday. She estimates around 150 people came to the workshop despite the sudden wintry weather.
“It’s really great to see,” said Loggin, who is already brainstorming for next year. “Health and wellness can mean so many different things for so many people, and this festival is a way to bring everyone together in one place.”
