For the first time, Vancouver Orpheus Male Choir will be accompanied by two local ensembles for their performance in Terrace on Saturday.
Both Sine Nomine, an acapella choral choir, and Real Emotion (RE) Choir will join the Orpheus men for a joint-concert as a result of a six-month collaboration between the three groups.
“The opportunity to collaborate with other Choirs really adds to a concert, with some great selections and varietal themes,” wrote Brian Hagerman of the Orpheus choir in an email. “We get a chance to rehearse and perform together and learn from each other, and it comes across seamlessly.”
Audiences should expect to see a mix of individual performances along with some pieces sung together as a massed choir. According to Cheryl Wyatt of Sine Nomine, the chance for audiences to see three choirs in one concert “will be a real treat.”
The Orpheus men make their rounds across smaller communities in Northwest B.C. annually to deliver performances ranging from an eclectic mix of popular ballads to old-time rock and roll covers. The 45-member group has travelled across Canada and internationally to perform, which included a 10-day tour in Wales in 2015.
“We are all amateurs, but strive for a professional performance,” Hagerman wrote. “Choral singing performed well creates a wonderful musical experience for the audience, and is also a thrill to perform.”
The joint-concert will be hosted at Knox United Church this Saturday, May 26 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and available at Misty River Books.
