Terrace RCMP employees added pink to their regular attire and uniforms in support of National Pink Shirt Day last week on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

“We all play an important role in helping others feel safe in our communities,” says Terrace RCMP inspector Jayson Lucash in a press release.

“As police officers, we see all too often the harsh realities of what happens to people faced with repeated unwelcomed and aggressive behaviour. We all have a role in standing up and supporting each other to let bullies know what they’re doing is not okay.”

The release reads that RCMP detachments across the province support their local communities and stand with them to fight against bullying, Adding that bullying can make a person uncomfortable, hurt or scared. It can also have long-term effects either physically, socially or psychologically, and not only on the victim but the bystanders who witness it.

“Raising awareness on the issues and standing together in pink with our communities allows us to take a collective stance and show there is no tolerance for this behaviour,” says deputy commissioner and commanding officer of BC RCMP Jennifer Strachan.

The RCMP also reminds parents to speak to their children about bullying, along with suggestions to look online for more tips and information.
